God answers prayer

This year we ran our third summer camp in Latvia – and came one step closer to the true Youngstars spirit: for the first time, everyone slept in tents. That brought its challenges, but it strengthened children and team alike. And it made all of us appreciate nature and simplicity in a new way.

As leaders, we took the children on a journey through the life of Jesus – from the calling of the disciples to the ascension. Some days were light and playful, others went deep.

“God really exists, because he listens to our prayers!”

Thursday, for example, was about the crucifixion. That evening we invited the children to respond to what they had heard – and many did. What a moment! Later we all sat around a big campfire, sang, laughed and enjoyed dessert. A night to remember.

Something else we will remember is the weather. The forecast had predicted rain for every day – yet it barely rained. Every time rain was expected, we prayed, and the rain stayed away. For some children this was their first encounter with answered prayer – a special moment reminding us that God reveals himself even in the little things.

In between there was plenty of everyday camp life: a scavenger hunt, a football tournament, archery, dancing, singing – and the daily battle against the swarms of mosquitoes. Everyone went home satisfied and a little changed.

We also sensed that people were praying for this camp. A few situations could have turned serious – and they did not. God protected us. Near the end, one of our leaders was bitten by a snake. Thankfully she is doing much better now, though her leg is still healing.

We were blessed with experienced helpers from Switzerland and with Cosmin from Romania. We learned so much from them. Pray with us that God keeps moving in Latvia and blesses this young ministry. God is good!
